Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Faint Light, Dark Shadows
Art gallery; art museum has always been a real getaway place for me since I was little. Going to art galleries is like a mini-vacation to me. Recently, I noticed that as I grow older I lost many interests that used to make me happy and inspired, and the art gallery was one of many things I enjoyed.
I believe art is never meant to be understood but instead, the meaning behind the artwork often derived from the artist's own perspective. Art is a channel for artists to express their idea, perspective, life experience and who they want others to perceive them as. Thus, I believe we don't need to understand the true or exact meaning or message behind a piece of art, we simply use art as another form of communication to receive new ideas or new knowledge. When I am out of motivation in life, feeling uninspired, I will go to an art gallery alone or with a good friend. After a few hours, I will be full of positive energy and I can simply keep going in life.
Last week, I visited the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) with a good friend. I was pleasantly surprised by the exhibitions. They have a good selection of artworks, and the exhibition space is spacious and comfortable to walk around.
Faint Light, Dark Shadows (微光闇影) was my favorite exhibition. The inspiration behind the series arises from a certain reality that forms in photographic images through the interweaving of light and shadow, brightness and darkness, and through the sense of concealment, they often achieve. The exhibition’s content centers on a dialectic between Taiwanese documentary photography in the late 20th century and the immediacy of photography in the digital age
I snapped a few pictures that I think reflect the theme of faint light and dark shadows.
If you love art and photography, I highly recommended this exhibition.
